Precious
poem by Rae Spencer

2

Category : Fame & Fortune, Fortune

Trapped in an oyster
A grain of sand
Swills sleek into pearl
Precious relief, gilded
To chafe no more
But what of the sand
Still sealed in the dark?

Like the acorn
That never sprouts
Squirrel-dropped in an asphalt ravine
Its infant heart strength
And oak dreams
Biding

Like the last Passenger Pigeon
Awaiting extinction
A single coo in a solo roost
Instinct tucked into a feather
Then molted away

Like the oyster
Cracked from the quick
Of its bed
For the sake of a pearl

Once noted, now known
As the start-heart of a pearl
A fine grain of sand
Lost from the sea
Becomes less and more
Precious in the empty space
Of absence

I love this wonderful poem by Rae Spencer. It is inspiring and full of wisdom as well: a lesson in life. A lot to think about and envision. Thank you and Congratulations!!!

Ah, Rae Spencer, “What of the sand
Still sealed in the dark?

…the acorn that never sprouts?”

What beauty, underlaid (lounged?) with lack of fulfilment, gorgeously portrayed.
