When I was a boy
poem by Brady Tolleson

July 27, 2012

When I was a boy,
Cowboys didn’t smoke Marlboro lights,
It was the depressed cheerleader down the street.

When I was boy,
A ring wasn’t love,
It was a mix-tape and rose.

When I was a boy,
The sun never set,
It filled her eyes with sweet desire.

Now that I’m a man,
She’s engaged to another man
And it gets darker every day.
